Wisconsin: Police Make Correction On Death Toll, 3 Dead Including Juvenile Suspect, 6 Injured In Christian School Shooting

Updated – 12/16 – 11:25am: The police made a mistake and recanted the death toll to three instead of five. However, at a press conference today, Police Chief Sean Burns initially said five people were killed in the incident.

At least three people, including a juvenile suspect, were killed and at least six others were taken to the hospital after a shooting at Abundant Life Christian School in Madison, Wisconsin, police said.

Burns said today was a “sad, sad day” not only for the community but for the country following Monday's shooting.

“Yet another police chief is holding a press conference to talk about violence in one of the most sacred spaces in our community, especially to me, who loves education, and who has children in school. “We're holding a press conference,” Burns said.

He said officers found multiple gunshot victims after responding to a report of an active shooter at the school at 10:57 a.m.

At least three people were taken to local hospitals for treatment after police officers and paramedics found the injured and performed life-saving efforts, Burns said.

Burns declined to say how many students and staff had died. The police incident website says the injuries ranged from “minor to life-threatening.”

“We will not be releasing any information about the identity of the victims, whether they are students, faculty, staff or parents, because we need to make sure people know,” said Madison Police Chief Shon Burns. .

The authorities said: CNN Officers are currently working to clear the school. It also said several nearby highways were closed and local residents were asked to avoid the area.

Abundant Life Christian School is a K-12 school with approximately 390 students, according to its website.

President Joe Biden has been briefed on the incident, a White House spokesperson said.

“The President was briefed on the Madison, Wisconsin school shooting. Senior White House officials are in contact with local officials in Madison to provide assistance as needed,” said Deputy Chief of Staff Emily Simmons. the spokesperson said.

Sen. Ron Johnson (R-Wis.) responded to reports of a shooting in which multiple injuries were reported by posting an X.

“My deepest sympathies and prayers go out to all the victims of the tragedy that occurred at Abundant Life Christian School,” Johnson wrote. “We will continue to monitor the situation closely.”
