Luigi Mangione, 26, has been charged with the murder of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson, but he won't stay quiet.
Mangione was captured on camera shouting, “This is totally outrageous and an insult to the intelligence of the American people,” as he entered the courtroom, and the internet went wild in the aftermath.
“Even in the midst of this tragedy, where the culture is today, there's been an influx of memes,” says Jill Savage of “Blaze News Tonight” and Logan, digital strategist at Blaze Media.・I asked Hall: What is this incident that has just gotten him and the nation's attention? ”
“So you don't see a lot of this kind of crazy street violence where someone walks up to a big CEO of a big company and shoots him dead in broad daylight,” Hall says. “Part of the reason is that since President Trump, since the election, the news cycle has slowed down a little bit. So people were looking at this with some bleakness.”
Matthew Peterson has a different theory.
“I think part of it is because it's hard to know what's going on these days, and when you look at this incident, here's a guy who shot and killed someone in broad daylight, and it's Monopoly in the bag, so to speak. money is coming in,” Peterson says.
“So every place I go, I know, 'Am I in a movie?' Does this person think they're in a movie? Is someone making a movie here? “What's true?'' he continued, “and he's this strange person, isn't he?''
This persona meant that Mangione was “very online.”
“We're going to need a lot of jokes and really weird humor to get us through this,” he says, although Hall admits that “memes are great.”
