A South African who entered the United States illegally tested positive for a terrorist watchlist and was “quickly” arrested in New York City.
The unidentified South African was initially detained in Texas on charges of trespassing, but was released, according to U.S. Border Patrol Chief Jason Owens.
Owens said further investigation found “a solid match to a terrorist watch list.”

The positive identification of a suspect in connection with terrorism led to a swift multi-agency effort to apprehend him in Brooklyn, New York. It is unclear when or how the suspect arrived in New York City.
“Thanks to multi-agency collaboration, this potential threat was located, detained and is currently pending removal,” he said.
