Securing Southern Border Will Drive Up Wages for Americans

Incoming border czar Thomas Homan said securing the U.S.-Mexico border will protect the country's labor market and increase Americans' wages.

In an interview with the Immigration Reform Law Institute (IRLI), Homan spoke about President-elect Donald Trump's vision of securing the southern border while deporting hundreds of thousands, even millions, of illegal aliens. will boost the economic situation of Americans, he said.

“Wages will go up, because right now illegal alien employment is driving down the wages of American workers. It will help protect American workers, and wages will go up,” Homan said. said.

Mr. Homan recounted the story of a son and father repair worker who once employed 20 Americans to renovate a house. Homan, the father, said he had to lay off American workers because he couldn't compete with a rival home improvement store that employed low-wage illegal aliens.

In addition to higher wages, Homan said securing the border would reduce American overdose deaths, save countless girls and women from sex trafficking, and overtax America's public resources. He said that it would be possible to prevent this from happening.

“This will be a well-planned, targeted enforcement operation,” Homan said of implementing the largest deportation program in the nation's history, as President Trump promised.

Homan said that while much attention has been focused on deporting convicted illegal aliens, illegal acts are treated equally in the deportation program.

“I don't want to be misunderstood. Prioritizing the worst-case scenario doesn't mean someone is taken off the table,” Homan said.

If you are in the country illegally, there is a problem. It's not good to enter this country illegally. It's not good to stay in this country illegally. It's no good to hire illegal immigrants. [Emphasis added]

Homan encourages illegal aliens to voluntarily leave to avoid a long-standing ban on returning to the United States required by federal law.

“What I'm saying is, go out on your own,” Homan said. “If you're retiring on your own, you don't have the five-year bar, the 10-year bar, the 20-year bar, all these bars.”

“We want people to leave. If you're here illegally, you need to look the other way. You shouldn't be here,” he continued. “We will come to you eventually. No one is off the table. That's the way it should be.”

There are currently between 11 million and 22 million illegal aliens living in the United States. The administration of President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris alone has admitted nearly 8 million immigrants into the United States, the overwhelming majority of whom do not have valid asylum claims.
