Kansas City Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker was elated after President-elect Donald Trump announced his choice to be the next ambassador to the Vatican.
President Trump recently appointed Brian Birch as the new U.S. ambassador to the Holy See, calling him “a devout Catholic and father of nine” and a religious man who combines his Catholic faith with political engagement. He is the president of the nonprofit organization Catholic Vote.

At the same time, Butker has been considered a purveyor of the Catholic faith since making headlines after his May 2024 commencement address.

His outspoken statements put him at odds with left-wing media organizations that dared to resist the “tyranny of diversity, equity, and inclusion,” making him public enemy number one for weeks.
In October, Butker announced he would vote for the “most pro-life” candidate for president.
“That's the most important theme to me: we want to fight for the most vulnerable, for the future generations,” Butker continued.
Although he did not say specifically who he would vote for, it was speculated that it would be Trump.
