Webster is a former FBI director during the Reagan administration and the only person to have led both the FBI and the CIA.

He was born in 1924 and is 100 years old.

Mr. Webster was appointed FBI Director in 1978 by former Democratic President Jimmy Carter, held the position for two full terms under former Republican President Ronald Reagan, and was appointed FBI Director in 1988 by former Republican President George H.W. He became director of the CIA under.

Webster expressed concern, claiming he was “deeply concerned” about the Trump administration's choices of Patel and Gabbard, adding that both positions required “complete independence from political influence.” .

Mr. Webster was also particularly concerned about Mr. Patel's history of personal loyalty to Mr. Trump, which he argued could run afoul of the law.

“While Mr. Patel's intelligence and patriotism are admirable, his close political alignment with President Trump raises serious concerns about his impartiality and integrity. Statements such as 'He is my agent'” “His record of carrying out the president's directives suggests loyalty to individuals rather than the rule of law, and is a dangerous precedent for an institution whose mission is the impartial administration of justice,” he wrote.

Patel has long been an outspoken critic of the FBI's investigation into Trump, and previously vowed to remove globalist “deep state” figures from the FBI. He has previously referred to some Democratic Party officials as “government gangsters.”

Webster, 100, also criticized Gabbard for her “conspicuous lack” of experience in the U.S. intelligence community, adding that the top intelligence posts “require unparalleled expertise.”

“Effectively managing our nation's intelligence community requires unparalleled expertise in navigating the complexities of global threats and maintaining the trust of our allies,” he continued. “Without that trust, our ability to protect sensitive secrets and cooperate internationally is greatly diminished.”

Gabbard has been criticized by mainstream media outlets who have labeled her a “Russian dignitary” for simply opposing U.S. funding of the war in Ukraine. Even though Gabbard served in the Army National Guard and was deployed to Iraq in 2004, the media has repeatedly accused her of parroting “Russia talking points.”

Meanwhile, MAGA supporters and Trump's transition team rushed to Gabbard and Patel's defense.

“Kash Patel is committed to the Constitution. He has served in key national security roles under President Obama and President Trump,” said Alex Pfeiffer, Trump's transition press secretary.

“It shouldn't be news that someone who has supported Joe Biden and Kamala Harris, who have been wrong on every foreign policy thing for the past four years, would oppose President Trump's nominee. Lt. Col. Gabbard is an active duty Army officer. member and has served in the military for over 20 years. “As someone who has consumed the highest levels of intelligence, including during wartime, Congress recognizes the importance of partnership with our allies to ensure the safety of the American people.” said Presidential Transition Secretary Alexa Henning.
