Oakland police investigating crash involving BART police cars that left several injured

Several people were injured in a multiple crash involving two police vehicles in Oakland, California, on Saturday, law enforcement officials said.

The Oakland Police Department (OPD) told FOX News Digital that the accident occurred in the 700 block of Mandela Parkway near West Oakland Station. Photos from the scene showed a heavily damaged police car with windows broken and doors open, as well as debris strewn across the road.

Authorities were alerted to the situation at around 2:45 p.m. local time. According to the Oakland Police Department, two patrol cars belonging to the Bay Area Rapid Transit Authority (BART) Police Department were involved in the crash.

“Several vehicle occupants were injured during the collision,” an OPD spokesperson said. “Paramedics responded to the scene and transported the patients to area hospitals for treatment.”

Authorities are still investigating the crash and its cause.

“It is unclear whether alcohol or drugs were a factor in this collision,” the statement added.

OPD did not say whether any BART employees were injured.
