Smugglers Abandon Two Little Girls After Crossing Border into Texas

Texas Department of Public Safety troopers rescued two girls who were left behind by human smugglers along the Rio Grande after crossing from Mexico. President-elect Donald Trump, who is seeking to retake the White House, has called on Congress to apply the death penalty to child traffickers.

Texas DPS spokesman Lt. Chris Olivares posted a photo on social media of a 9-year-old girl holding a note with the address and phone number of a U.S. contact. Ruthless human smugglers abandoned a girl and her five-year-old companion after crossing the Rio Grande near Eagle Pass, Texas.

The only thing the girl in the Snoopy shirt had was a note from her contact person in the United States. The post does not indicate where this contact lives or whether the contact is related to any of the abandoned persons.

Instead of turning the children over to Child Protective Services in Texas, they were released to Border Patrol agents for processing into the United States.

In July 2023, then-candidate Trump called for the use of Title 42 to end child trafficking by immediately returning trafficked children to their countries of origin. He also called on Congress to make child trafficking a capital crime.

“When I return to the White House, I will immediately end the Biden border nightmare where human traffickers exploit vulnerable women and children,” Trump said in a video.

“I will use Title 42 to end the child trafficking crisis by returning all trafficked children to their families in their home countries without delay,” he continued. “I will be asking Congress to immediately impose the death penalty on anyone caught trafficking children across our borders.”

During fiscal year 24, the last full year of President Joe Biden's term, Border Patrol agents encountered more than 109,000 unaccompanied minors trafficked into the United States. Over the past two years, investigators have discovered nearly 290,000 more.

During fiscal year 2020, the last full year of President Trump's first term, employees had contact with just 33,239 unaccompanied minors, down from less than 89,000 the year before. did.
