A construction worker died after falling from the landmark Waldorf Astoria hotel in New York on Thursday morning, authorities and officials said.
The 45-year-old helmet was found on the ground around 9:40 a.m. outside a luxury hotel on Park Avenue near East 49th Street that had been under construction for years, police and officials said.
Police said he had suffered “injuries sustained during a fall from a height.”
Law enforcement officials confirmed that the worker had fallen from the sixth floor.
Paramedics responded and pronounced him dead at the scene, authorities said.
Representatives for the hotel did not respond to requests for comment.
A powerful skyline presence and symbol of Manhattan glamour, the Waldorf is home to the legendary Peacock Alley and was the footprint of Cole Porter, Frank Sinatra and Marilyn Monroe until it closed in February 2017.

Reopening was initially advertised as 2020, then 2021, 2022, and 2023.
However, a spokesperson confirmed there would be no further postponements. The iconic hotel is scheduled to reopen this spring, the Post reported last month.
