glenn beck He was recently invited to Mar-a-Lago to give a history speech in front of Donald Trump at a PragerU event. As Glenn was planning what to say, he decided that adding two strange props would give his speech an edge. It's a World War II-era rat with William Wallace's sword from “Braveheart” and a bomb in his butt.
However, he did not consider the ramifications of bringing these weapons into one of the most secure locations in the country. The ordeal ended in a hilarious story that put Glenn in the history books as a Secret Service legend.
“I'm not writing a speech. I'm just going through the vaults and trying to tell that story, that story, that story. So I've got a lot of stuff. “But I didn't think much of it until I started getting closer to Mar-a-Lago,” Glenn says of the story.
From multiple security checks to a fleet of Secret Service trucks to an “old school bus” surrounding President Trump's plane, Glenn said it was a “nightmare” to enter the grounds.
“The security around him right now is just incredible,” he tells his co-hosts Stu Brugiere.
At one security checkpoint, Secret Service agents asked Glenn if he had any weapons in his car. He said no (the reality that the speech prop was actually a weapon had slipped through his mind).
When he arrived at another security checkpoint, officers opened the hood and all the doors, took the dog out and began questioning him. At that moment, Glenn realized that he had made a mistake. After explaining to the agent, who luckily turned out to be Glenn, that his speech prop was technically a weapon, he was waved through to the next security checkpoint, where the whole process started again. It has begun.
The agent asks Glenn again if he has any weapons, to which he replies, “Well, well, I do,” explaining that he has a “Braveheart” broadsword and a World War II-era bomb. did.
Thankfully, the agents thought the situation was strange.
“They were taking pictures of everything. They were laughing. They were saying, 'This is legendary,'” Glenn laughed.
As ridiculous as the situation was, they still had work to do.
“They were like, 'Okay, it's a rat. Let's take an X-ray of the rat.' After they noticed that the rat was full of wires, the person in charge came in and said, 'What are we going to do? 'I don't know what to do.' Please do it here,” says Glenn.
Finally, Glenn was told that the agents would keep both the sword and the rat bomb until half an hour before the speech was scheduled, at which point they would make a decision.
When it was time for Glenn's speech, the agent told Glenn that he would have to “remain with sword and mouse,” but that the event was still “legendary.”
