Incoming Border Czar Celebrates Discovery of Cartel Drug Smuggling Tunnel Under Mexico-Arizona Border

Incoming border czar Tom Homan celebrated the discovery of three drug smuggling tunnels used by Mexican cartels along the Arizona border. Law enforcement agencies from the United States and Mexico worked together to discover the tunnel using drone technology.

Homan posted a report on social media calling the discovery “great news.” The incoming Trump administration's border czar described a “joint operation between U.S. and Mexican officials.”

“This is one of three recently discovered in the last year alone, this time with the help of a drone,” Homan said.

On December 26, Mexican government agency SPP Sonora posted on Facebook photos of the drone operation that led to the discovery of one of the tunnels.

“A joint operation with Customs and Border Protection (CBP) authorities through the Department of Public Safety and State Police used drones to locate the tunnel between Sonora and Arizona in San Luis Rio Colorado. officials said, according to a Facebook translation of the Spanish post.

Homan added a comment to his post saying that the cartel is Mexico's fifth largest employer. “That means about 175,000 people are looking to apply for further work,” he said.
