On Monday's broadcast of MSNBC's “Katie Tarr Report,” Rep. Jason Crow (D-Colo.) said Democrats certainly have to make some changes, but President-elect Donald Trump's vote share is “The Democratic Party will be at a disadvantage,” he said. Barring the incredible gerrymandering that redraws district lines across this country, they will take control of the House of Representatives. ”
Discussing the lessons learned from the 2024 election, Crowe said, “Never stop gaining support and communicating with the American people. This is not a history lesson, but it is one that many people It exists and we will continue to do so.” To make a point. So we're going to continue to work. I have made many vows throughout my life. I was an Army Ranger. I served in Iraq and Afghanistan. I swore an oath to uphold the Constitution while fighting for my country. I recently took the oath here in Congress again for the fourth time. That is my North Star. I will never stop fighting for the Constitution, for the American people, and for my voters. That's all I can do and will continue to do. ”
Moderator Katie Toole then asked, “How about you get a little more specific? Do you think the Democratic Party needs to move in a new direction, learn to speak differently, and focus on different issues?” . Is there anything more you can do? Particularly with Congress so divided, and with the American people sending Democrats this message: At least internally, we're giving them advice on how to approach the next two years. Will it be? Were the Democrats so dissatisfied that they tried to put Donald Trump back in office? ”
Crow replied: “Well, first of all, let's not overreact or exaggerate what happened, okay? Donald Trump earned the fifth lowest amount. [the] The popular vote for every election over the past 100 years. So this is not a landslide red wave by any stretch of the imagination, but on top of that we have the Electoral College, and on top of that, there's a lot of gerrymandering going on. If it weren't for the incredible gerrymandering that redraws district lines across this country, Democrats would control the House. So that's the important part of this story. And I don't think we can ever forget that. That being said, I'm from the middle of the country, born and raised in the upper Midwest. I currently represent a Western state, and I know we must do a better job of articulating our case, communicating with voters, and ensuring that we address the concerns of America's working class. No doubt about it. These are the people I grew up with [with]. I grew up in a working class family and worked in construction, minimum wage jobs and fast food to pay for college. We will continue to focus on these issues because we understand that too many Americans are suffering, and we will continue to focus on issues that many Americans want. ”
Mr. Toole then said Mr. Crow sounded like he was saying Democrats didn't need to change much. Crowe said he wasn't saying that, that the party needed to avoid over-exaggeration, and that making change and looking at ourselves was not an all-or-nothing proposition. He countered that he was just saying that.
