Anchor Shannon Bream mentioned the wildfires surrounding the City of Angels during a talk on “Fox News Sunday.” Bream said it was an important topic to discuss with Vance since his inauguration with President Donald Trump is scheduled for Jan. 20.th.

“California Governor Gavin Newsom sent a letter to President Trump saying, “Let's not be confrontational now, let's go out and visit and let people see us working together.” “Is there any indication that the next president might do that?'' she asked Vance.

“Well, I know the president wants to visit California, and first of all, my heart goes out to everyone affected by the storm,” the vice president-elect responded. “I've seen some videos of people who have lived in their homes for 25, 30, 35 years, everything is gone. And whatever your political affiliation, My heart breaks for our fellow Americans who are going through a very difficult time without having to see those images.”

“Frankly, I think the federal government needs to do a better job. President Trump is committed to doing a better job on disaster relief,” he continued. “It's true for hurricane victims and flood victims in North Carolina. It's true for fire victims in California. We just have to do a better job. We have what it takes. I don't think that means you can't criticize the governor of California for making some very bad decisions over a very long period of time.”

Multiple fires have broken out across Los Angeles since Tuesday, January 7th.th. As of Sunday, two major fires, the Palisades Fire and the Eaton Fire, had destroyed more than 12,000 structures. The death toll rose to 16. More people are expected to be discovered as cadaver dogs search the ruins.

Seeking to shift the blame for inadequate wildfire preparedness to local leaders, Newsom invited the president-elect to come to Los Angeles on Friday to assess wildfire damage.

“In the spirit of this great nation, we must not politicize a human tragedy or spread disinformation from the sidelines,” Newsom said in a letter to Trump. “Hundreds of thousands of Americans who have been forced to flee their homes and feel uncertain about their futures deserve to see us all work to put their interests first and ensure rapid recovery and rebuilding. .”

“As I prepare to assume the Presidency again, I invite you to come to California once again to meet Americans affected by the fires, see firsthand the devastation, and join me and others in honor of our brave firefighters. We would like to express our gratitude to the officers and first responders who are putting their lives at risk,” he continued.

Newsom's invitation came after Trump slammed Democrats, saying he should resign as governor.

“One of the greatest and most beautiful parts of America is being burned down,” President Trump said on Truth Social. “It's gone to ashes, Gavin Newscome should resign. This is all his fault!!!”
