Los Angeles County Fire Chief Anthony Malone apologized Thursday night to residents who lost their homes in the Palisades fire.
Marrone apologized at a town hall meeting at Sinai Temple in Westwood, where Pacific Palisades and Malibu evacuees had been invited to a briefing by fire officials. He said he was sorry “for not being able to protect” lives, homes and businesses in the county.
The mayor added that he “couldn't have been more proud” of the work his staff did to bring the fire under control.
The night also featured the controversial Los Angeles Fire Department chief.
Many have accused Christine Crowley of being slow to respond to the fire.
Also at the Los Angeles City Council meeting, angry residents criticized Mayor Karen Bass, Chief Crowley, and city council members for voting to cut the fire department's budget.
Los Angeles is expected to experience another round of dangerous Santa Ana winds early next week, which could complicate firefighting efforts, officials said at a city hall meeting.
