Border Patrol agent killed in Vermont traffic stop ID’d as veteran of force

The identity of the Vermont Border Patrol agent killed while stopping migrants near Vermont's northern border has been identified as David C. Marand, the Post reported.

Marand, a 13-year veteran of the agency, was shot on Interstate 91 near Coventry on Monday around 3:15 p.m., according to federal law enforcement officials, and was arrested by the Newport Vermont Border Patrol. He was assigned to the station.

One of the Maland attackers was killed and another injured. The injured man is in federal custody, officials said.

Marand worked in the Border Patrol's Swanton District, which includes Vermont and parts of New York and New Hampshire.

The FBI said there was no further threat to the public.
