A wildfire broke out Tuesday afternoon near the Fashion Valley Mall in Mission Valley, prompting mandatory evacuation orders for about 1,000 people.
The Friars Fire broke out just after 12:30 p.m. local time, according to Cal Fire. The content rate is 0%.
The San Diego Fire Department confirmed they were on scene battling a vegetation fire near Friars Road and Via de la Moda in Mission Valley.

San Diego police issued evacuation orders and warnings for nearby areas.
“The fire is currently 1.5 acres in size and is threatening structures,” officials said.
The 124-acre Zone 1894-A is under mandatory evacuation, according to city data.

Officials cited an “imminent threat to life” in the evacuation order.
All residents are asked to leave immediately.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation, Cal Fire said.

A temporary evacuation site has been set up at the Snapdragon West parking lot located at 2101 Stadium Way, San Diego, CA 92108.
The San Diego County Office of Education announced that the Linda Vista campus and Linda Vista Innovation Center will be evacuated.
“If you are on your way to an appointment or class, please avoid the area. We will share updates as the situation develops,” SDCOE said in a statement regarding X.
Officials say the daytime population is 920 people and there are more than 350 structures in the area.
