Trump unleashes ICE from Biden-era limitations on nabbing illegal aliens at ‘protected areas,’ including churches and schools

The Department of Homeland Security has released a memo ending restrictions on Immigration and Customs Enforcement operations in “protected areas,” including churches and schools.

The rules, imposed by former Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas under the Biden administration, are designed to ensure that immigrants are not prevented from accessing “essential services” or participating in “essential activities.” limited enforcement actions;

A previous memo said ICE enforcement must consider “broader societal interests.”

Instead, the new DHS memo asks ICE officers to use common sense when enforcing immigration laws.

“Going forward, law enforcement officers must continue to exercise their discretion with sound common sense,” the memo said. “However, there is no need for the head of the agency to create clear rules regarding the areas in which immigration law enforcement is permitted.”

fox news ICE officials said the new rule would allow them to deport more illegal aliens because they were using the Mayorkas Rule to avoid deportation by hiding in churches and other “protected” areas. Reported.

The rescinded Mayorkas rule went into effect in 2021, adding schools, universities and health care facilities to the list of protected areas, as well as places of worship, social services and food banks. The memo said ICE enforcement must consider “broader societal interests.”

A separate Department of Homeland Security memo criticized the Biden administration and others for abusing humanitarian parole to allow hundreds of thousands of immigrants from Cuba, Haiti, Nicaragua and Venezuela into the United States. The department said humanitarian parole is intended to be applied on a case-by-case basis and does not “grant aliens a presumptive eligibility based on a broadly applicable set of criteria.”

The memo was sent after President Trump took office and signed several executive orders restricting illegal immigration after Biden's lax rules led to a historic surge in illegal immigration into the United States.
