White House OPM orders all DEI offices to begin closing by end of day Wednesday

WASHINGTON – The federal Office of Personnel Management (OPM) must close all diversity, equity and inclusion offices by the end of Wednesday and begin taking steps to provide paid leave to public employees in those offices. The heads of each agency and department were notified. Fox News Digital has learned.

Acting Secretary of Human Resources Management Charles Ezell sent a memo Tuesday evening to department heads and acting secretaries, directing them to do the following by 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 22:

  • Send an agency-wide notice to employees informing them of the closure and asking them if they are aware of any efforts to disguise these programs using coded or imprecise language.
  • All employees of the Office of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Accessibility (DEIA) have been notified that they will be placed on paid administrative leave effective immediately as the Office of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Accessibility (DEIA) has taken steps to close/terminate all DEIA initiatives, offices, and programs. Send notifications.
  • Delete all external-facing media (websites, social media accounts, etc.) for the DEIA office.
  • Final or pending documents, directives, or directives issued by agencies in response to now-repealed Executive Order 14035, “Federal Workforce Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Accessibility” (June 25, 2021); Withdraw orders, materials and capital plans.
  • Cancel all DEIA-related training and terminate DEIA-related contractors.

The memo also directed agency and department heads to share the following information with OPM by noon on Thursday, January 23:

  • Complete list of DEIA offices and employees in those offices as of November 5, 2024
  • Complete list of all DEIA-related agency agreements as of November 5, 2024
  • All government agencies intend to fully comply with the above Executive Order and this memorandum of understanding.

By 5 p.m. Friday, the agency head must submit to OPM the following:

  • A written plan for implementing reduction measures with respect to employees working in DEIA offices
  • A list of all contract descriptions or HR position descriptions that have been changed since November 5, 2024 to obscure their association with the DEIA program.

The memo was released after President Trump signed an executive order eliminating all DEI programs from the federal government.

The president also signed an order making it “the official policy of the United States government to recognize only two genders, male and female.”
