Demi Lovato Tells Trans, Non-Binary Fans ‘We Will Get Thru’ Trump Order Recognizing Only Two Genders

Pop superstar Demi Lovato posted a message to fans who identify as transgender and nonbinary, following President Donald Trump's order that the federal government recognize only two genders: male and female. “We will get through this,'' he said.

Demi Lovato, who identifies as gender non-binary and has apparently returned to using they/them pronouns, posted a message on her Instagram Stories this week.

“If you are transgender or non-binary like me, please know that I see you, I feel you, and I am with you. You are accepted and loved. We are not alone. No one can take away our identity or tell us who we are or who we are not,” Lovato wrote.

“We will get through this. I love you.”

Lovato's message came after President Trump formally announced his order in his inaugural address on Monday.

“As of today, it will be the official policy of the United States government going forward that there are only two genders: male and female,” he said, to a standing ovation from the audience.

The president's order was not surprising, as he had promised to do just that before taking office.

President Trump said in a speech at Turning Point USA's America Fest in December: “From day one, with the stroke of my pen, I will stop the transgender insanity.” “And I'm signing an executive order to end child sexual mutilation. We'll kick transgender people out of the military and out of elementary schools, middle schools, and high schools.”

Demi Lovato has been flipping her pronouns around in recent years.

In 2023, she explained why she reverted to her pronouns, saying it was too difficult to use they.

“I was really exhausted,” Lovato said. “I'm just tired.
