TikTok a Real National Security Threat — Law ‘Needs to Be Enforced’

Rep. Mike Turner (R-Ohio) said Wednesday on CNN's “The Read” that President Donald Trump should not have suspended the law requiring China to withdraw from TikTok.

Host Jake Tapper said, “Of all the executive orders that President Trump has issued, I think there's one that you're very concerned about, because there was a law that banned TikTok.” spoke. The bill passed the House, passed the Senate, was signed into law, and was upheld by the U.S. Supreme Court. However, President Trump is seeking to suspend this for 75 days. I don't know either, I mean, I didn't know the president could do that. But what is your reaction?

Mr. Turner said: “Here's a great editorial in today's Wall Street Journal. I think that sums up what you just said. This is a law passed by Congress and signed by the President of the United States, and the current It includes the dates and steps necessary for the president to suspend its effectiveness. ByteDance, the owner, has started the process of allowing them to divest from TikTok. Now, ByteDance is saying they won't do that. I think it's because they don't see it as a business. I believe it is being used by them as a propaganda tool.”

He added: “This is a national security risk and raises serious concerns about access to data and other apps on devices and mobile phones, and whether those apps are at risk. As a result, many governments around the world have We have banned the use of ikTok. Even India has banned TikTok in the country and we have started the process of seeking divestment. I think this is a national security threat. The reality is that this law that we passed needs to be enforced. China's interests in TikTok need to be stripped away.”
