Tempers flared during a high school basketball game in Georgia this month. A heated moment appeared to lead to a physical altercation between players from opposing teams.
TMZ reported that the fight in question occurred during a game between Sonoraville High School and Rockmart High School on January 3 in Calhoun, Georgia. Calhoun is located approximately 70 miles from downtown Atlanta.
Video posted on social media An unidentified Rockmart player appeared to be pushing one of the Sonoraville athletes to the ground. The Rockmart athlete immediately hit the Sonoraville player in the face as soon as he regained his footing.

A second Sonoraville player was hit after he ran toward the scuffle. Spectators in the crowd could be heard making noises as they reacted to the situation. The video shows some individuals moving from the stands to the court area to step in and intervene.

An incident report from the Gordon County Sheriff's Office suggested that the Rockmart players were provoked by the repeated use of racial slurs by players on the opposing team.
The teenager, who appears to have initiated physical contact during the incident, faces two charges of simple battery, according to a police report. A brawl broke out in the third quarter of the match.

Rockmart High School and Sonoraville High School officials have not yet provided public comment on the incident.
