New York Gov. Kathy Hochul, a Democrat, condemned the actions of the Trump administration.

“This is just cruel and trivial,” she wrote on social media. “Transgender people play a key role in the fight for LGBTQ+ rights. New York will never allow them to erase their contributions.”

The Stonewall Monument was first dedicated to the LGBTQ movement and was founded by former President Barack Obama. The National Park Service did not respond to requests from WCBS for comments.
