IRS laying off thousands of workers in the middle of tax season, sources say – WSB Atlanta

WASHINGTON, D.C. — The IRS will fire thousands of probation workers midway through the tax season, with cuts likely to occur soon next week, according to two sources familiar with the agency's plans.

This intensifies the Trump administration's drastic efforts to reduce the size of its federal workforce by ordering agencies to fire almost all probation employees who have not yet obtained civil service protection. That's when it did.
