The Trump administration has returned to Nigeria to ship the first flat road of 85 Nigerians who were illegally in the United States as African nations warn them to handle deportation “with dignity.”
US immigration officers detained 201 Nigerians for deportation to their country as the first plane with 85 detainees to land in Lagos on Monday.
Nigerian Foreign Minister Bianca Odumegu Odukuu confirmed his arrival on Monday in a post in X, captioned, “US deportation begins.” Hallmark News.
“The first group is convicted prisoners, people who commit crimes and are in US prisons. Some of them are people who have clearly violated US immigration laws,” said U.S. Ambassador Richard Mills. The junior ambassador told reporters in Nigeria.
“They sued, they were denied, but they are still in the United States. They committed immigration crimes and were ordered to leave,” he added.
However, Odumegwu-Ojukwu warned the United States to act with “dignity.”
“In the new US administration, we want a situation where we have commitment. If there is repatriation, we want a dignified return,” she cried.
“Is there a way to improve their pain? This is not just the Nigerian citizens of the United States, but also the Nigerian families that Nigerian families depend on for survival, children whose tuition is paid by these diasporans. It was a huge concern for me,” she added.
“As a country, are we asking if they're given enough time to handle their assets or if they'll be repatriated by planes, especially committing violent crimes. It's really traumatic for those who haven't done it,” Odumegu Ojukuu declared in honor.
Meanwhile, the African nation has recently celebrated its own deportation campaign as Nigerian officials lamented that they must reclaim their citizens who have illegally entered the United States. announcement 828 illegal immigrants to Nigeria were deported last year.
