10-time WNBA All-Star Britney Griner was a no-show of speaking engagement booked just outside of Washington, DC.
The Atlanta Dream Center decision comes from a note found near the entrance to a hotel room in National Harbor, Maryland.
Griner was scheduled to speak at the Women's Grow Leadership Summit on February 17th.
However, the event organizers informed attendees that Griner had pulled out after seeing “threatening objects and words” outside their hotel rooms.
The note in question contained the phrase “gay baby prison.” The words appeared to be written on duct tape.
The Prince George County Police Department has confirmed the start of an investigation at Gaylord National Resort & Convention Center, the location of the meeting.
“Detectives have learned that the phrase “gay baby prison” is commonly used as a reference for video games,” he said. TMZ Sports read. “When the tapes were placed there was a massive convention at Gaylord. Gaylord attracts thousands of people. Many are interested in anime and video game enthusiasts. At this point, at this point. , the detective has not revealed links or threats to guests who found the tapes.”

Chanda Macias told WUSA9 that hotel staff had insisted the message was a cruel joke.
“I don't know what their protocol is, but I don't know why the room isn't cleaned,” Macias said.
Investigators added: “Detectives are working to determine who determined who the tape was made and who determined the intent behind it.”
A 2013 interview with Sports Illustrated is believed to be Griner's first discussion of her sexuality.
During the interview, Griner was asked about the differences in public acceptance as it is associated with male and female athletes revealing sexuality.
“We couldn't really give an answer as to why it was so different,” Griner told the outlet at the time. “It's who you are, because it's something that's out. Again, like I said, just who you are,” Griner said, and others thought about their life. He added that he didn't prioritize what he did.
“Don't worry about what other people say. They're always going to say something, so if you're loyal to yourself, let it shine. Don't hide who you really are. Please,” she said.
Griner, the WNBA defensive player of the year, has been married to Scherrell Griner since 2019. The couple welcomed their first child together in July 2024.
Griner spent the first 11 seasons of his WNBA career with Phoenix Mercury. She signed a contract with Dream in January.
