Catholic bishops sue over freeze in refugee resettlement funding

The USCB on Tuesday called for challenge to the Trump administration's move to block funding for refugees resettlement programs.

Immigration groups are already suing the administration for halting new refugees hospitalizations, but the new lawsuit freezes funds for local organisations affiliated with the federal government to help refugees after the State Department arrives in the United States You are trying to prevent it from doing so.

USCCB suit When funds were suspended later last month, more than 6,700 recognized refugees were allocated to it, leaving the hooks in millions of dollars each week, and already forced employees to be fired.

“Refugees who have already entered the United States could soon be cut off from support, making it even more difficult to express their will and establish themselves as productive members of society. “We'll read the complaint.

The lawsuit filed in U.S. District Court in Washington, D.C., claims that the freeze undermines the power of Congress' wallets and violates multiple federal laws.

Oka reached out to the State Department for comment.

Since taking office, President Trump has issued a surge in immigration behaviour, ranging from restricting birthright citizenship to taking on so-called sanctuary cities.

These actions and the administration's efforts to suspend various parts of the federal budget have been under legal scrutiny and prompted nearly 80 lawsuits challenging key control measures.

The USCCB said the State Department awarded about $65 million for the first refugee resettlement program this year, suspending funds by pointing out Trump's executive order to suspend foreign aid.

“The fact that federal funding is essential to the USCCB's resettlement services is a direct result of Congress' decision regarding the design of the program and the budget that directed it,” the lawsuit states.

“And the current funding and the uncertainty surrounding the USCCB's partnership with the government will have long-term and potentially devastating consequences for the USCCB's programme. It has been illegally stopped, “It continues.”
