The airline said the cut will target leadership roles and corporate positions, including senior leadership and director roles.

The airline says it is trying to build a “slimmer and more agile organization” under its transformation plan, so the total cut would be 1,750 jobs, including 11 senior leadership positions.

“We are a crucial moment as we transform Southwest Airlines into a faster, faster, more agile organization,” CEO Bob Jordan said in a statement.

Additionally, Southwest said most job cuts will end by the end of the second fiscal quarter, with savings for fiscal year 2025 to approximately $210 million, and overall fiscal year 2026.

“Every dollar is important as we continue to fight back to great financial performance,” Southwest CEO Bob Jordan told employees in a January memo. Wall Street Journal It has been reported.

Airlines have already begun to detail the changes that are in the work, including providing allocated seats, changing boarding processes, and bringing in premium seats.

Additionally, Southwest will begin operating the Redeye flight in February to “maximise aircraft availability” and reduce the turnaround time between flights.
