Senate Republican: Putin a 'cancer,' 'greatest threat to democracy'

Sen. Tom Tillis (RN.C.) has accused Russian President Vladimir Putin of “cancer” after President Trump strengthened criticism of Ukrainian President Voldymir Zelensky amid the Russian Ukrain conflict.

“Look, I'm a Republican. I support President Trump. I believe most of his national security policies are right. Tillis warns global turmoil on the Senate floor on Thursday. He said he was doing it.

“But anyone who believes that what I'm telling you, there's space for Vladimir Putin in a stable future of the Earth is better off going to Ukraine, they're more likely to go to Europe. “Good, they invest better time to understand that this guy is there and the biggest threat to democracy in my lifetime,” he added.

Trump recently tried to pinpoint responsibility on Zelensky due to the ongoing war that began in earnest following the Russian invasion of Ukraine in 2022.

“Look, Zelensky was fighting a much bigger presence. Trump told Sean Hannity in an interview in January.

“I could have made that deal very easily. Zelensky decided, 'I want to fight.' ”

However, Tiris, who is running for reelection in 2026, has buked allegations of Zelensky's misconduct and puts the blame straight on Russia. He argued that the United States should fight against the expansion of Russia's land every time.

“It's a cancer that spreads into the South China Sea, into Taiwan and has spread across the world,” the North Carolina lawmaker said of Putin's efforts to expand his territory.

“So when I say that women and gentlemen, Vladimir Putin, is a liar, a murderer, and is responsible for ordering systemic torture, inducing and raping innocent civilians, the evidence is slightly higher, so I am. Trust me.”
