When signing Soto, the Mets were hoping to promote their team to the World Series after a surprising run in the NLC last season.
The Soto addition had fans wondering whether the team could hold one-base Pete Alonso, who is also a free agent this offseason.
Alonso later re-signed the Mets, giving Soto important protection in the lineup.
A four-time All-Star Soto had the best season of his Yankees career last season. He hit .288 with a career-high 41 home runs and 109 RBIs.
