American Airlines flight diverts to Rome after bomb threat: report

According to reports, American Airlines flights from JFK airport to Delhi had to detour to Rome after the threat of bombs on board and land under fighter escorts.

American Airlines Flight 292 made a sharp U-turn near Turkmenistan's Sunday due to “possible security issues.”

“Safety and security are our number one priority and we appreciate our customers' understanding,” an American Airlines statement read.

“We are working closely with local governments and will be updated as the situation develops,” an American Airlines statement said.

According to airline tracking site Flyrader24, the plane detoured due to bomb threats

Images from social media show the Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner is tailed with two Eurofighter typhoon war planes from the Italian Air Force.

The plane left John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York about 8:30pm on Saturday for a 14-hour flight to the Indian capital.

After returning a big loop to Europe, we landed in Rome around 11:15am.

In early February, American Airlines flights were evacuated and delayed in Texas for nearly five hours. This is because passengers had a Wi-Fi hotspot entitled “There's a bomb on the flight.”
