The deadline for federal workers to respond to Elon Musk's request to check weekly work output on Monday nights, but the outcome of reducing response remains vague.
Shortly before the deadline on Monday, Musk confirmed that federal workers will be given another opportunity to respond, and that failure to do so would “contribute to firing.”
Several agencies, including those led by loyalty to President Donald Trump, have told employees not to respond to original requests from the Office of Human Resources (OPM). Musk herself proposed on social media that refusing to respond to emails would be “considered as a resignation,” but the actual emails from OPM did not mention such outcomes.
“Reply to this email with about five rounds of what you achieved last week and manager CC,” the OPM request reads and there is no threat of termination.

The FBI and the Pentagon, led by Trump's allies Kash Patel and Pete Hegseth, have also instructed employees not to respond, citing the secret nature of their work.
“If you need more information, we'll adjust the answer. Please pause the answer for now,” Patel wrote to an FBI employee.

But Trump insisted that despite the contradictory orders there was no rift in his administration.
“They don't mean they're fighting Elon in any way,” he told reporters later last week. “Everyone thought it was a pretty original idea.”

“What he's doing is saying, 'Are you actually working?',” Trump said Monday in his oval office. “And if you don't answer, you're sort of semi-fire or you're fired, so you're fired because they don't even exist, so you're fired.”
Despite this, Musk appears angry at the lack of response to his request, and turned to X to express his frustration a few hours before 11:59pm on Monday.
“The standard to pass the test was to type in and send a few words, he wrote. “Even so, many people failed that crazy test, prompted by their managers. Your taxes Is it spent? It makes your old Twitter look good. I didn't think that was possible. ”
