Abdul Carter weighing foot surgery in potential NFL draft twist

Abdul Carter, the top pick in this year's NFL Draft, can consider surgeries to deal with the stress response discovered in the right foot.

Tests revealed the issue on Wednesday, and Carter's agent, Drew Rosenhaus told ESPN's Adam Shefater To immediately decide whether he will undergo surgery.

“There are mixed opinions on whether he needs surgery or not, and we'll understand that in the near future,” Rosenhaus told the former Penn State Pass Rush chef on Wednesday night.

Carter is expected to make a decision this week, and Rosenhouse argued that the issue would not hinder his draft prospects.

“I don't think that either way the worst-case scenario will affect this if he's been drafted,” Rosenhaus said. “After visiting with the team this week, I think he will be the number one overall pick.”

Pennsylvania's outstanding, along with his family and agents, Rosenhouse and Robert Bailey, consulted with medical experts on the matter.

According to the Cleveland Clinica stress response is “like a deep bone bruise. If something continues to apply pressure in the same place before the stress response heals, the bone can crack and cause stress fractures.”

Carter is currently weighing preemptively, including inserting a screw into his leg.

In that scenario, Carter will return in about eight weeks.

In the second option, Carter forgot about the surgery and showed that the NFL club didn't need procedures during the pro day.

Carter is one of the names that will be called on the No. 1 overall pick on April 24th, when the draft will be held in Green Bay, Wisconsin.

Colorado quarterback Shedur Sanders, Colorado two-way player Travis Hunter and Miami QB Camward are all mentioned as potential No. 1 picks when Titans hit the podium.

Carter made the pitch for Wednesday's first overall pick at NFL Combine's Indianapolis.

“I feel like the best player in the country,” Carter said. “And you need to choose the best player.”

“Defensive players have as much of an impact on the game as quarterbacks,” Carter later said. “Because me and the best defensive player in the country are just as important as we are as important as the best quarterbacks.”
