James Cameron: Trump reelection 'like watching a car crash over and over'

Oscar-winning film director James Cameron said he was “sick” when Trump reelection was made Thursday, adding that he “like seeing a car crash over and over again.”

As highlighted, I'll talk about the “The F-ing News” podcast VarietyTitanic and the director of Avatar said his New Zealand citizenship was “immediate.”

Cameron, born in Canada and based in New Zealand for the past 14 years, said he has not resided in the United States again.

“I'm watching everything move away from something decent,” Cameron said of the United States under the Trump administration.

“America doesn't stand for anything if it doesn't represent something that has historically existed. I think it becomes a blank idea and they are screaming for it as quickly as possible for their own good,” he added.

When asked if he felt safer in New Zealand, the filmmaker said he wasn't sure, but added that he didn't need to “see that guy's face” on the newspaper front page.

“That's inevitable [in the U.S.]”He said.

Since taking office in January, Trump has taken a series of drastic moves to remake the federal government alongside billionaire tech lord Elon Musk. Musk-led efforts to sabotage and reduce government agencies have infuriated Democrats, sparking skepticism from some Republicans, and are worried about their impact on constituents.

Trump has also removed agency watchdog, removed top military leaders and lawyers, stopped diversity programs and added foreign aid.

Democrats, caught up in the losses of the 2024 election, are torn about how to best respond to the gusts of action that comes from the White House and Doge. Grassroots Democrats are already beginning to seek a stronger response from party leaders.
