House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) said on Sunday that Russian President Vladimir Putin was “untrusted” and “dangerous.”
“What is your view of Vladimir Putin?” CNN's Dana Bash asked Johnson about the “state of the Union.”
“Vladimir Putin is an old-fashioned communist, former KGB agent, and he is untrusted and dangerous,” Johnson replied. “The way we see this is that China, Russia, Iran and North Korea are engaged in a new axis. It's a force of the axis, and we're not on the US side. Let's be clear about that.”
Johnson's comments featured screams and finger points following a tense oval office meeting with President Trump, Ukrainian President Voldimi Zelensky and Vice President Vance on Friday. The President and Zelensky argued for US support for Ukraine.
After the meeting, Trump said on his true social platform that the Ukrainian president “is not ready for peace because he feels that our involvement is giving him a great advantage in negotiations when America is involved.”
“I want peace. He downplayed the United States in his precious oval office. He can come back when he is ready for peace,” Trump said in Zelensky's True Society.
Trump has concluded the war between Russia and Ukraine, with Russian authorities meeting in Saudi Arabia last month.
In the arrival of the “Union State,” Johnson said, “we are trying to become agents of change… to mediate the peace and end of this conflict, both parties need to be at the table to do so, negotiate with both parties, and have to be motivated on both sides to end it.”
