Senate Republican: Putin 'killing anyone who disagrees with him'

Senator Bill Cassidy (R-La.) criticized Russian President Vladimir Putin's track record of killing a recognized enemy on Monday, and declined to eagerly criticize Russian leaders as President Trump and his cabinet pursue peace talks.

“Putin routinely throws people against him through the windows and blows the planes they are on. He has not only invaded Ukraine. He is killing people against him.” I wrote it Social Platform x.

Many of Putin's most famous political enemies have died, including opposition leader Alexei Naverny, who died in prison last year, and Yevgeny Prigodzin, who died in a plane crash weeks after an attempted rebellion in 2023.

Last Tuesday, several Republican senators, including Cassidy and Senate majority leader John Tune (Rs.D.), said Russia is only responsible for the ongoing Ukraine-Russia conflict.

“Russia is clearly an invader,” Cassidy said.

That's not a recent message from the White House following a hostile meeting between President Trump and Ukrainian President Voldy Mirzelensky on Friday. Trump previously denounced Zelensky for the Russian invasion, saying on Friday the Ukrainian leaders were not ready for peace.

Last week, Louisiana Republicans responded to a US vote against a UN resolution condemning Russian aggression by citing quotations from a military tribunal that oversaw the 1946 Nuremberg trial that indicted Nazi war crimes.

Cassidy's Monday Morning Comments Zelensky's famous trip to Washington led to criticism before Ukrainian leaders signed a mineral rights deal with Trump.

Trump has been widely criticized by Democrats for opposing Zelensky because he is trying to warm up his relationship with Putin. The president also rils former adviser and officials along with HR McMaster, a former national security adviser, saying that the president is “played” by Putin, just like his past presidents.
