‘Reagan’ screenwriter says DEI requirements disqualified movie from Oscars’ best movie consideration

The “Reagan” film writer said diversity, equity and inclusion guidelines disqualified his film from being considered the best film category at the Oscars.

The biopic about Ronald Reagan's life starred Dennis Quaid, but screenwriter Howard Krausner accused the awards organization of discriminating against the film based on race.

“We didn't seriously expect anything nominated by Hollywood in this cultural setting. It's just sadness.”

“I think this situation speaks for itself. There's really no anger or digging between us who made this film. We didn't seriously expect anything nominations from Hollywood in this cultural setting. Go to Fox News Digital.

On Sunday, the film “Anola” won the best picture. The film is about a New York sex worker, who is married on a whim and is a Russian oligarch. He also won five other Oscars. “Reagan” was not nominated for an Oscar.

“What happened to the grand dream factory that once was Hollywood?” Klausner continued. “Once upon a time, it spoke to almost everyone's hearts and dreams, and it seemed intuitive that 20th century industrial leaders and famous people would “earn” the middle of the country as well as the cultural elite. ”

Film producer Mark Joseph noted that “Reagan” has a huge gap between 98% approval from audiences, compared to 18% ratings from rotten tomato critics.

Klausner went on to say that he left Hollywood to make a film for a regular audience, not an audience that the industry likes.

“I left Hollywood a few years ago and wrote and produced “Heartland Films” like this. But we love what was once an industry and a culture voice. And I really believe we can become that again.”

“I'm really lamenting the truth about what an executive at a really highly placed studio said to me recently,” he added. “Now we're making movies primarily for 10% of the population.”
