Boston Mayor Michelle Wu will ask questions from Congress on Wednesday about Sanctuary City policy.

Since President Donald Trump's 2024 election victory, Woo has doubled the city's status in Boston's sanctuary, saying police and city officials will not support federal authorities in deportation.

“Boston continues to experience crimes, drug activity and trafficking from [migrant] The facility, former Massachusetts immigration shelter director, John Featherson, told Fox News Digital.

Amy Carnevale, chairman of the state's Republican Masgop, told Fox News Digital that he hopes Wu will tell “it's a safer city than New York City, Denver and Chicago.”

“But that's all relatives. That means there's just too many murders, one rapes, one violent crime,” Carnebele said. “In Boston… there are a lot of violent crimes committed by illegal aliens, and the fact that she declared Boston as a sanctuary city is an invitation to put the safety of its residents at risk and even criminal aliens coming to the city.”

Under the Boston Trust Act, enacted in 2014 and amended in 2019, the Boston Police Department can “work with ICE-HSI” on certain crimes, such as “trafficking, child exploitation, drug and weapons trafficking.”

However, the law also states that Boston police will not ask people about the immigration situation, share information with immigration and customs enforcement, arrest them based on ice warrants, or transfer people to ice custody.

“We continue to say that Boston is following the law. We are fully abiding by the law, so we continue to do what we do. This says that local governments and local police departments have the authority to enforce crimes at a local level to keep everyone in our community safe,” Wu told WBUR. “Immigration falls into federal government and federal officials. Being involved in doing federal work is not within the scope of city authorities, nor is it the federal government's job for what is to happen at the local level.”

Meanwhile, Josh Craft, son of New England Patriots owner Robert Craft, is running to replace Wu in November.

Kraft further expressed his support for the Trust Act and denounced Trump's plan to deport illegal and criminal immigrants.

“It's outrageous to consider ice officers raiding schools and places of worship to cut down undocumented immigrants who are not engaged in criminal activities,” Craft said, referring to the recent Department of Homeland Security (DHS) directive, retracting previous Biden administration guidelines and repealing the prevention of ice and customs and border protection officials from introducing the law.

Tom Homan: Boston will help the illegal immigration crisis or “get out of the way”

“This action empowers the brave men and women of CBP and ICE to enforce immigration laws and capture criminal foreigners, including murderers and rapists. “The Trump administration will not tie our brave law enforcement hands, and instead trusts them to use common sense.”

Massgop submitted a record request to Gov. Maura Healey's office last year, saying it was “seeking details of the criminal report from the immigration shelter.”

“We received these results just before Christmas and detailed over 1,000 violent criminal cases. This has happened in immigration shelters for the past three years, which are considered safe shelter for those seeking a shelter in Massachusetts,” the chairman explained.

“These reports were heavily compiled, so we don't know how many violent cases occurred in Boston. We have these numbers and want to know what Mayor Wu is doing to deal with violent criminal cases.”

Featherton described immigrant shelters as “chaos.”

“There are no homes available for sex crimes, rape of young girls, EBT card fraud, molds, insects, mice and immigrants,” he explained. “…The immigration shelter crisis has affected schools, police, and fire budgets. Teachers are frustrated and not feeling supported. Public safety officials are burned out as most departments are called to shelters every day.”
