Trump Using Tariffs to Get Others to Do More on Border, Fentanyl Is Victimhood

In an interview during the reporting of NBC's President Donald Trump's pre-Congress speech, Sen. Adam Schiff (D-CA) tried to get other countries to do more about illegal immigration and fentanyl by using tariffs to get other countries to do more about illegal immigration and fentanyl, saying that Trump's rhetoric “reminded me of seeing the whole world through the victims.”

Host Kristen Welker said, “What are you saying about his argument, these countries are using the US. He says these tariffs are necessary not only to deal with people illegally crossing the border, but also to deal with fentanyl floods — of course, that's happening largely in China. For example, we haven't seen them at all in Canada. [at] Same level – but does he have the point that in order to send a message, the US needs to be tougher in terms of its customs policy? ”

Schiff said, “Firstly, when he was talking about America as a victim of all these other countries, he reminded me that he sees the whole world through the prism of victims. Born in this Wells-May, he sees himself as the biggest victim. He considers America just to be a victim. For a party that reduces casualties, I have never seen anything so appealing to being a victim. The United States is the most powerful country in the world. We are incredible – we have benefited so much from this international rule-based order that we supported creation. Alliance with NATO is very beneficial to our own security. He is torn all of that apart. He chooses to fight with our allies, like Canada, like Ukraine. And for what? What is it useful to the United States? Not so.”
