DeSantis knocks Supreme Court ruling on Trump foreign aid freeze as missed opportunity

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) criticized the latest Supreme Court ruling to stop President Trump from freezing foreign aid, calling it an opportunity to miss out.

“The (liberal) district judges have no authority to order @Potus Trump. The Supreme Court missed a major opportunity to stop by fraudulent district courts that obstruct administrative operations. Desantis said on X on Wednesday.

He argued that the Supreme Court's 5-4 decision would give “green light” to all judges who resist Trump's actions, allowing them to “throw sand into gear” of his administration.

DeSantis also pointed out that Supreme Court Judge Samuel Alito was “right.”

In Wednesday's emergency ruling, Alito was one of the justices who opposed along with three other conservatives in the court.

Three liberal justice and judge Amy Connie Barrett were with a district judge who opposed the Trump administration and ordered the administration to release $2 billion in foreign aid on contract.

Alito questioned whether district court judges have “unconfirmed powers to enforce” the federal government to pay the contract.

“The answer to that question should be 'no', but the majority of this court clearly believes it is,” Alito wrote. “I'm feeling uneasy.”

The emergency ruling came when the Trump administration worked to dismantle the US Agency for International Development (USAID).

Thousands of employees were fired, 90% of international aid contact payments have been suspended, and several lawsuits and uncertainties have arisen over the administration's ability to change federal spending.

Advocates for the agency say interference causes “preventable deaths, destabilizations and threats to national security on a national scale.”
