Rep. Anna Paulina Luna (R-Fla.) announcement On Wednesday, her plan proposed to introduce the mayor of the Sanctuary City to the Justice Department for criminal investigations and accusing her of having illegal aliens.
Luna shared the announcement between House Committee on oversight and government reform hearings with Democratic mayor Michelle Wu of Boston, Brandon Johnson of Chicago, Mike Johnston of Denver and Eric Adams of New York City. The hearing was held as part of the Committee's investigation into the impact of Sanctuary Urban Policy.
“I introduced the mayor of the Sanctuary to the Department of Justice for a criminal investigation.”
She made a statement by asking Wu, Johnson and Johnston about the policies of their city's sanctuary. She did not question Adams, who agreed to work with President Donald Trump, Borderland Emperor Tom Homan and other administrations to deal with the illegal immigration crisis in New York City.
“After this series of questions, it is very clear that all these policies are active and lively in your city is a direct violation. US Title 8 Code, Subsection 1324and federal crimes,” Luna told the mayor.
“But you're all talking about the broken immigration system, and here you're supporting and betting the whole process,” she continued. “I want to be very clear about something. This is what you're talking about and hurt people on both sides. So, they come here illegally and hurt people as well as American citizens.”
Luna said she doesn't believe the Democratic mayor is “a bad guy,” but she believes they are “ideologically misunderstood.”
“Unfortunately, based on your response, I will… introduce you to the Department of Justice for an investigation. As soon as I leave, these will go to Pam Bondy,” declared Luna that she could potentially indicate that she may have held three obvious DOJ referrals and potentially removed Adams from scrutiny.
Some media Report Luna said she introduced all four sanctuary mayors. However, whether Adams is included remains unknown from her direct statement.
Luna noted that the referral was not intended to “bully” the mayor.
“But I believe your policies are hurting Americans, and you can let it know with evidence that you can present to the Department of Justice. But if you continue doing what you are doing, you won't help anyone. You'll hurt more people, and that's exactly why I'm tired of it. Americans are tired of it,” she concluded.
Committee Chairman James Kommer (R-KY.) used Luna's remaining time to question Adams about the financial impact that the illegal influx of foreigners had on New York City.
Adams explained that city taxpayers have fired about $6.9 billion in response to the immigration crisis.
“The long-term impact of that is very important,” Adams replied.
After the hearing, Luna wrote in a post In X, “I introduced the mayor of the Sanctuary City to the Department of Justice based on their own comments and evidence from policies that proved they were breaking federal law.”
“Open border ideology hurts people on both sides. If you hold a federal agency and break the law, you will be criminally investigated by the DOJ,” she added.
The DOJ and the mayor's office did not respond to requests for comment from Blaze News.
