NFL news: Bills pay Josh Allen record-setting extension through 2030 season

The Buffalo Bills are rewarded with Josh Allen in his MVP 2024 season by becoming the top-speed quarterback in the NFL.

The bill and Allen agreed to a six-year extension, and the team announced on Sunday. The deal will ensure he will remain in Buffalo throughout the 2030 season as a franchise quarterback.

ESPN reports that the transaction is worth an extension of $330 million. This is a fully guaranteed $250 million, the largest guarantee ever given to an NFL player in history.

Allen's expansion has intercepted 28 touchdowns for six times for 3,731 yards after winning the first MVP award, rushing for 531 yards and 12 scores in 17 games. He became the only NFL player to throw with at least 25 touchdowns, rushing for at least 10 touchdowns and giving up less than 10 interceptions in a season.

The Bills went 13-4 in the regular season, but eventually fell again to Kansas City chief in the AFC Championship game.

Allen remained in the current contract with the current bill for four years, but they denied it to make sure he was fairly compensated. The six-year extension paid $55 million per season, tying him at the same price tag as Joe Barrow of the Cincinnati Bengals, Jordan Love of the Green Bay Packers and Trevor Lawrence of the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Only Dallas Cowboys quarterback Duck Prescott ($60 million) is paid more per season than his extension.

Since taking Buffalo to be seventh overall in the 2018 NFL Draft, Allen has led his bill to six straight AFC East titles and quickly solidified himself as one of the best quarterbacks in the game today.

Allen is known for a lot with his legs like his arms, and has scored a total of 65 rushing touchdowns since entering the league. But he's throwing 195 touchdowns to 84 interceptions, the latter of which was something he really tried to cut back in 2024 and it worked.

Allen's career minimum intercept total was during the 2018 campaign, which gave up nine picks. Throwing six this season was one of many goals he checked off, compared to his career high 18 in 2023.

Speaking of goals, it's clear that Buffalo was trying to reinforce their cornerstone this offseason, and Allen is the latest and largest ever.

The bill also gave Edge Rush's Gregle Saw, who paid Allen's favorite target in 2024, a four-year $80 million extension, a four-year $53 million extension, and confirmed linebacker Terrell Bernard was properly compensated for with a four-year $50 million expansion, moving away from free agency.

The bill is gearing up for another season. They want to continue it for the AFC East Crown for seven consecutive years, as well as appearing in their first Super Bowl since 1993.

It's not hard to realize that it's the ultimate goal headed for 2025, but the bill has made it possible for franchise quarterbacks to worry about that, as it's more than a financial advance.
