The brain behind the quirky forum is Briar Rose Detomasso, the designated “Mayor of the Block” of Romer Hell's Kitchen. He posted that it was a setback to an era that meant placing ads in village voices, ads on Craigslist, and resonating with Craigslist immediately.

“This young New Yorker has a sense of looking for an in-person connection,” Detomasso said. “People are hungry for this.”

“We just think it's the era,” Detomaso said. “Dating people we meet in person on site is new, so I felt it really suited not only what we do as a place for our neighborhood gatherings, but also the many of the programming we create.

“And it's a fun message to be like, 'Now go and find someone at your local bar.' ”
