GOP lawmaker pushes to impeach judge over order to halt deportations

Republican Rep. Brandon Gill (Texas) said he would urge federal judges who ordered the Trump administration to suspend deportation of Venezuela gang members over the weekend to each.

“This week I will submit an article on the perks each to activist Judge James Boasberg.” Gill said in X's post.

On Saturday, President Trump invoked the alien enemy law of 1798. This is the third wartime law, the first time since World War II. The order was intended to target members of the Trump Aragua (TDA) gang, whom Trump said could be arrested, detained and removed by the country.

US District Judge James Boasberg had previously ordered a temporary bloc on the deportation of five members of the group, so Trump had urged him to issue a declaration.

The judge then verbally ordered the plane carrying its members to turn back if it had already left.

The Trump administration said the plane was already out of the US jurisdiction and that members were loaded in El Salvador after Secretary of State Marco Rubio secured a contract with the country's president for the exchange of prisoners.

The issue became a more complicated legal battle as the American Civil Liberties Union questioned whether the White House had violated a judge's order. The administration claims it did not do anything illegal.

Gill isn't just about chasing away judges who oppose Trump.

Rep. Derrick Van Olden (R-Wis.) submitted an ammo each article to Judge Paul Engelmeyer in February after the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) restricted access to sensitive Treasury data. Axios reported.

Several other lawmakers have since tried to push out judges who have opposed the administration's drastic moves since retrieving the White House.

Last month, Dozi leader Elon Musk called for a “wave” of judicial bullets each as various judges checked his agency and the power of the Trump administration.
