Vice President JD Vance has announced that he will become the latest Treasury Chairman of the Republican National Committee (RNC). Vance will work with the GOP to “enact the MAGA mandate fully” to help grow the Republican majority in 2026.

This announcement is the first time in GOP history that a sitting vice president will serve the role. RNC officials said that the group's executive committee first voted unanimously to confirm the Vice President in their new role, but Vance has been appointed RNC Chairman Michael Whatley.
An RNC official said Fox News Digital The Vance, which serves as a financial chair, is “unprecedented” and shows “how many of the White House and RNC are in the lockstep of this cycle.”
“Everyone will focus on the growth of our majority in 2026 and we will actively raise money to prepare for next year.”
In his speech, Vance explained that in order to advance the MAGA agenda, he will need to win in the middle of 2026.
“But we must maintain and grow the Republican majority in 2026 in order to fully enact the Maga duties requested by voters and the vision of President Trump,” Vance told the outlet, expressing his excitement in working with the RNC leadership, saying, “We need to bring those wins in November next year.”
Vance reflected Trump's “historic election victory, helping the White House back and Republicans regain control of the Senate and maintain control of the House.” Fox News.
“But we must maintain and grow the Republican majority in 2026 in order to fully enact the Maga duties that voters have requested and the vision of President Trump,” Vance said.
“We are excited to build the leadership of Chairman Whatley and RNC to build the war chest needed to deliver these victories in November next year,” Vance added.
“JD will do a great job as an RNC finance chair,” President Trump said in a statement. “He knows how to fight and wins tough races.”
The president added, “I'm happy he will work with Michael Wailey to secure the election, vote and win a great victory next year!” ” he added.
Additionally, RNC Chairman Mike Whatley said Vance was “the definition of an American success story, rising from a childhood when his family faced a major struggle to become one of the youngest vice presidents in our country's history.”
“Vice President Vance is not only one of our party's most talented messengers, but also the ideological leader who helped remake the GOP in a working American party representing forgotten men and women in our country,” writes Whatley. “I am continuously grateful for the leadership and direction that President Trump has provided for his party, and I respect that he works with Vice President Vance to grow his party and that President Trump has the vote to make America great again in Congress.”
Meanwhile, Vance follows a committee of the National Finance Chair of Richard “Duke” Bucan III. President Trump has appointed Buchan to serve as Morocco's ambassador.
Whatley thanked Bucan for his “risqué service” to the RNC and GOP and for his “support for President Trump.”
“His efforts have been an integral part of our success in 2024,” Whatley said.
