Special education teacher fights molestation charges, claims student set her up for blackmail because she’s ‘good-looking’

An Illinois Special Education teacher accused of abusing a 15-year-old student is fighting back with accusations of child sex crimes. The suspended teacher claims that the student set her up for threats and targeted her because she “seems good.”

As reported by Blaze News this week, 30-year-old Christina Formella has been arrested and charged with one count of aggravated criminal abuse (class 1 felony), one count of criminal sexual assault (class 1 felony), and one count of aggravated criminal abuse (class 2 felony).

Formella is a married teacher at Downers Grove South High School – has been accused of sexually abusing a 15-year-old student in December 2023.

Quote the prosecutor of Dupage County New York Post The victim's mother reported that she bought a new phone to her son and linked it to her iCloud account. After doing so, the mother allegedly discovered a text message about the sexual relationship between her son and her hormones.

After the mother confronted her son about his tutor and his illegal relationship with a soccer coach, the mother and son went to the Downers Grove Police Station on Saturday to report alleged sexual assault to authorities.

The student alleged that he and Fermera were “in the classroom when hormones sexually assaulted the boy before school began.” statement.

However, Formella claimed that she was a victim of a potentially horrifying mail scheme by students who targeted her because she was “good looking.”

“[Formella said] She looks good so everyone comes after her, and she's a good person who just cares about too much [the boy]According to court documents obtained by ” Daily Mail.

When investigators asked the student about a sexually charged text message, Formela reportedly accused the student of breaking into her phone.

“She claimed that one day, [the boy] I grabbed her phone unattended, entered my passcode… I sent a message to his phone, deleted the message from the phone, and saved it threateningly on my mobile phone,” the document read.

The students claimed that they ended their relationship, New York Post.

DuPage County State Attorney Robert Berlin called the accusations against the teacher “very uneasy.”

“She is said to have used her position of trust and authority as a tutor to sexually assault minor students,” Berlin said. “The types of abuse and behavior allegedly claimed in this case are not tolerated.”

Downers Grove Police Chief Michael DeBrees described the child abuse allegations as “deeply related to the lawsuit.”

“The safety and well-being of our children will remain our number one priority. We will take all the necessary actions to ensure that those who engage in this type of conduct are held accountable,” Devries added.

Formella is currently in Downers Grove South High School's Special Services Division from 2020-21. She also coached boys and girls soccer.

According to Irwen LYP, Principal of Downers Grove South High School, Formella is on administrative leave.

Formella was released from prison under the condition that she would not enter Downers Grove South High School and was ordered not to contact anyone under the age of 18.

Formella is scheduled to appear in court on April 14th.
