House Observation and Accountability Committee ranking member Gerry Connolly (D-Va.) requested an investigation into Commerce Secretary Howard Luttonick's comments.
“This is the latest example of the Trump administration using taxpayer resources to enrich the president's inner circle,” Connolly said. Thursday letter John K. Guantel, acting advisor to the Department of Commerce.
His investigation comes two months after President Trump rejected dozens of independent institutions' watchdogs without Congressional approval. Regulatory bodies, including the Consumer Financial Protection Agency, will also be layoffs amid concerns about Musk being involved in government lawsuits while earning billions from the private sector.
Lutnick has urged Americans to leverage the 34.6% decline in Tesla stocks by “the best leader in any American company working in America.”
“If you want to learn something from this show tonight, if you want to buy a Tesla,” he said during his appearance. Fox News “Jesse will Watters Prime Time.”
“I can't believe this guy's stock is this cheap. It's never going to be this cheap again.”
Connolly said the comments were violated. Standards of ethical behaviorclaiming that the Trump administration will use taxpayer resources to “enrich the president's inner circle.”
Virginia lawmakers called for a copy of electronic communications with the White House, in addition to all political appointees, in addition to financial disclosures from Lutnick and his deputy secretary, as well as a response with the White House lawyers, the Government Ethics Bureau, the Special Advisors Office and the Department of Commerce prior to interviewing Fox.
Connolly requested Guenther to present information by April 3rd.
“The current situation depends on Tesla is owned by individuals licensed by the president to cut and burn the federal government, indiscriminately and legally terminate federal workers, eliminate the services it offers to Americans, and line up their own pockets along with billions of taxpayer dollars,” he writes.
“These continued violations of law require a level of abuse to try to serve all, rather than stopping further lawlessness and enriching the few selected by members of this administration.”
