Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) agrees with one aspect of President Trump’s policy: crackdowns on illegal immigration and fentanyl flows.
Sanders discussed this on ABC News’ “This Week” with Jonathan Carl, asking if Trump’s actions were effective.
“I think strengthening borders, especially with fentanyl, makes sense,” Sanders replied. “No one thinks illegal immigration is acceptable. I believe in comprehensive immigration reform, but I don’t think it’s right for people to enter the country illegally.”
The senator agrees to strengthen borders to protect citizens, but disagrees with Trump’s massive deportation plan.
“He wants to deport 20 million people in this undocumented country,” Sanders said. “You do that, and you’d destroy the country.”
“My businessman friends, including Trump himself, won’t work in meat-processing homes or choose crops in California because I use news for you. Undocumented people do that work,” he continued.
Sanders is a leading left-wing figure opposing the Trump administration and tech giant Elon Musk.
He is set to embark on his “Fighting Oligarchy” tour nationally, joined by Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.). Over 30,000 people attended a gathering in Denver over the weekend.
