Walz walks back Tesla stock quip: ‘Being a smarta–’

Minnesota Governor Tim Waltz (D) walks back to tell him he's “smart” after joking about Tesla stocks falling.

“You have to be aware that I'm smart – I was kidding.” Waltz said. “These people don't have a sense of humor. They're the most literal people.”

“My point is they're all mad and I said something… It's probably not about the company,” he continued.

Waltz experienced sharp criticism from the right after Elon Musk joked about Tesla Stock falling amid his involvement in the Trump administration with the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE).

Last week he told Wisconsin crowds he would be excited to see Tesla stock, which fell 34.6% last month.

Investor Kevin O'Leary slammed Waltz with his joke by calling it “silly” as Minnesota's National Investment Commission reported in 2024 that he owned 1.6 million shares of Tesla in the retirement fund.

Walz's latest comment came from an event in New York. He criticized Mask for being the wealthiest person in the world and not helping those who need it. If roles are reversed, Walz pointed out that he is giving people money on the streets because it's fun to make a day.

“It's not this guy,” Waltz said. “I'm not this guy.”

Running alongside former vice president Kamala Harris, Waltz emerged as one of the Democrats' loudest voices. He launched speaking tours across the country after Republicans were warned against angry constituencies and doing them.
