Cam Hayward has two goals in mind as he enters his 15th year with the Steelers, despite the team still not solidifying their answers at quarterback.
Currently appearing On Friday of “The Rich Eisen Show,” All-Pro defensive tackle not only visited the Steelers facility on Friday, but also spoke about his recent cheating with Aaron Rodgers, who was the topic of conversation about Hayward's podcasts at the beginning of the week that saw free agency waiting games.
“Funny. Everyone gave me crap, they said I called him. I don't think I called him. I said I'm not going to go to the dark retreat to recruit him. If he wanted to be a steeler, he could be a steeler. Hayward saidaccording to nfl.com.
“I don't understand why everyone thought, 'Oh, Cam is really going to him.' Some fans felt like, “Yeah, I'll keep doing that.” Other fans felt, “Oh, man, you're really going to scare him.” I'm not scared of anyone.
When Hayward, 35, wriggled the Buzz on Tuesday, he said he wouldn't be a game of Darkness Retreat to recruit Rogers, 41, to Steel City.
The former Jet quarterback, who has become open about his unique offseason activities, is at the top of the free agent wish lists for both the Steelers and Giants.
“I'm not retreating that darkness. I don't need that crap.” Hayward said before On his “not just football” podcast. “You want to be a Pittsburgh Steeler or not. It's easy. It's simple. It's pitch. If you want to recruit, that's the recruitment pitch. If you want to be a part of the Pittsburgh Steelers, otherwise you don't have any skin from your back.”
The Steelers are finishing their 10-7 campaign led by Justin Fields and Russell Wilson.
Fields, 26, opened the season 4-2 when he filled out for an injured Wilson who won the starting job from training camp.
The 36-year-old Wilson took over in week 7, winning four straight games before winning his first “L” in a loss to the Browns in November.
The Steelers ended the season with a 28-14 wildcard loss to the Ravens, closing out the season with a five-game skid.
Fields then signed with the Jets on a two-year, $40 million contract, but Wilson had not signed it as of Monday.
The Steelers re-signed backup quarterback Mason Rudolph earlier this month after spending past seasons with the Titans.
Rogers, who has spent his time on the West Coast this offseason, “has spent about six hours” at the Steelers facility on Friday. According to ESPN's Adam Schefterwho described the interaction as a “positive visit.”
With each schefter, the parties “keep in touch.”
Shortly after Rogers' visit was over, the Giants added Journeyman QB Jaymis Winston.
The previous first pick agreed to a two-year, $8 million contract after spending the 2024 season with Steelers' rival Browns.
But even if Winston signs it, the giants haven't closed Rogers' doors.
The four-time league MVP finished his second and final season with the Jets, throwing 28 touchdowns and 11 interceptions in 17 games.
