Homeland Security Secretary Christie Norm and Housing and Urban Development Secretary Scott Turner announced Monday that their agencies will work together to prevent illegal immigrants from living in public housing.
The Trump administration aims to end the “wasteful misappropriation” of taxpayer money subsidizing illegal immigrant homes by “identifying illegal aliens who are unable to receive federal housing support” to DHS, according to the new one. Memorandum of Understanding Between two agencies.
“For the benefit of American citizens, American taxes should be used for the benefit of American citizens, especially on issues as pressing as our country's housing crisis,” Turner said in a statement. “This new agreement leverages resources such as technology and personnel to ensure that Americans are their only priority when it comes to public housing.”
“We will continue to work closely with DHS to maximize resources and make the most of our American citizens.”
The MOU has shown that “depressed veterans” will benefit from the cooperation agreement, which will encourage “data sharing” between HUD and DHS.
“The Biden administration has given priority to illegal aliens over our own citizens, including funding by illegal alien taxpayers at the expense of Americans. “The whole government will work together to identify abuse and public interest exploitation and ensure that people in this country are not illegally maintaining federal benefits and other financial incentives.”
“If you're an illegal immigrant, you should leave now,” the DHS chief added. “The gravy train is over.”
The HUD shows that approximately 59% of illegal immigrant households benefit from at least one government welfare program, creating costs of around $42 billion.
The agency said it has at least 9 million residents of public and subsidized homes “without appropriate information sharing to determine eligibility status.”
In addition to signing the MOU, Turner directed public and Indian Housing (PIH) offices to move to workplaces (MTW) and public housing authorities (PHA) and to comply with federal laws that prohibit HUD-funded service providers from providing financial assistance to illegal immigrants.
